14-Day Bird Watching Safari

Birding safari in Chobe National Park offers access to over 450 avian species across riverine, floodplain, and woodland habitats. Arrive at Kasane Airport. Transfer to your private campsite. Afternoon we go for a boat cruise n the mighty chobe river, for a focused river birding cruise. Scan the reed beds and sandbars for African Skimmers, Long-toed Lapwings, Slaty Egrets, and Rock Pratincoles.

2nd day, full day Wilderness Exploration. Early 4x4 game drive into the riverine woodlands of the Chobe Riverfront. We look out for Kori Bustards (Botswana's national bird), Southern Ground Hornbills, and Bradfield's Hornbills, more different bird species and wildlife to see. At sundown watch massive flocks of Cattle Egrets and Storks roosting, more elephants more buffalos and more general wildlife species. 3 nights safari in Mababe Private Reserve offers an intense wildlife and birding experience. Positioned as a critical wildlife corridor between Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta, its diverse landscape shifts from the seasonal wetlands of the Mababe Depression to dense cathedral mopane forests. Because Mababe is a private concession, it allows for flexible activities prohibited in standard national parks, including off-road tracking, guided walking safaris, and night drives. Mababe Marsh known for high concentrations of water-associated birds, including slaty egrets, kingfishers, storks, and herons. Mopane woodlands hosts raptors such as white-backed vultures, martial eagles, and African hawk-eagles. Excellent for spotting secretary birds and kori bustards on grasslands. Khwai Concession offers an intense, highly productive combination of premier bird watching and big game viewing. Because Khwai borders the Moremi Game Reserve along the Khwai River, it serves as a natural magnet for massive mammalian herds and over 450 bird species. Unlike national parks, this private community concession allows for off-roading, night game drives, and guided walking safaris. Each day of our stay here, dawn game drive we leave before sunrise to catch predators like wild dogs or lions while they are actively hunting. We then swap the 4x4 vehicle for a traditional dugout canoe handled by a local poler. Glide silently through the reed beds of the delta's tributaries. This is the absolute best way to spot shy Lesser Jacanas, African Rail, and reed-dwelling frogs up close. Afternoon we explore the concession on foot with an armed, expert tracker. A 2-night safari in Moremi Game Reserve optimizes birding and predator spotting across the Okavango Delta floodplains. This combines morning and afternoon game drives with dedicated water-based or lagoon excursions targeting Moremi's 400+ avian species. Mid-morning birding stops along the mopane woodland tracks, we look for the Southern Ground Hornbill and various raptors. Afternoon game drive focused on large game like elephants, lions, and African wild dogs. Return to camp after sunset for dinner and campfire discussion. Bordering Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana, there are no fences or artificial boundaries separating the concession from the reserve, massive populations of wildlife migrate freely through the area. The natural waterholes and close proximity to the Gomoti River attract a wide array of apex predators, large mammals, and prolific bird species year round. Pride sightings are common, and you regularly fall asleep to the sound of lion calls. The mixed woodland and open savannas offer excellent camouflage for the solitary cats, leopards. Both spotted hyenas and black-backed jackals patrol the region, acting as major nocturnal scavengers and opportunistic hunters. The skies always heavily populated by eagles, vultures, storks, and herons following the floodplains. We experience these on our 2 nights stay here, on guide game drives.
